2011-12 Tony Collins Cup Winners
On 1st May our under 12’s travelled to the Rock home of Cefn Druids to play the final of the Tony Collins under 12’s cup against Ruthin.
After finishing third in section 2, we face Ruthin who had finished first in section 1, in what on paper looked to be a very close game. However our lads had other thoughts and quickly took a 2-0 lead with Joe Edwards grabbing the two goals before Ruthin made it 2-1, not to be out done Llay scored a further two goal to go in 4-1 up at half time. The second half was a lot closer with Ruthin coming out looking to take the game to Llay, but it was that man again Joe Edwards who popped up with his fourth and Llays fifth goal, then with just 3 minutes to go Llay sealed the match with another goal to make it Llay 6 – 1 Ruthin.

After beating Marchwiel and Ruthin on the way Llay found themselves in the final at Cefn Druids against a close rivals Marford and Gresford.
Having played each other twice in the league this season with both games going Llay’s way, everything was set for a cracking final.
Llay were quickly off the marks penning Marford and Gresford in their own half for most of the first 20 minutes, with the pressure paying off after about 10 minutes when the M&G goal keeper was forced into an error of handling the ball just outside of the area. Llay took full advantage from the resulting free kick with the ball being swung into the box being meet by Jak Prytherch to put Llay 1-0 up.
Llay continued to pressure but it was M&G who started to come to life towards the end of the first half, with the Llay keeper who had had a quiet time until then forced into a good save from a long range shot.
The second half started much the same as the first with Llay pressuring M&G and this pressure again paid off whenAlister Randles scored a well taken goal to make it 2-0 to Llay.
However Gresford were not to be out done as they pushed forward to try to reduce the deficit, only to be denied by some good goal keeping and defending. Which allowed Llay to hang on to win 2-0.
Congratulations to Llay and well done to both sets of players, who did their clubs proud by playing the game in the sprit it is meant to be played.

Llay Under 11's Girls team, despite being one of the youngest teams in the league, proved they were also one of the best by making it through to the Wrexham and District Under 11's girls football cup final, against a very good Mold team who had won all but one of their games ( 3 - 3 draw against Llay) during the season.
Everything was set up for a cracking final on Wrexham football clubs top quality artificial pitch, and the game did not disappoint with both teams going for the win. After some good defending by both teams the first half ended goal less.
The second half was again a close end to end affair, with Mold taking the lead through a deflected goal eight minutes from time. Llay pushed forward looking for the equaliser, but it was not to be with Mold defending strongly to hold out for a 1-0 win. |
