On Saturday 9th February we were honoured to have a visit from Welsh Legend Ian Rush to our Alyn Waters ground, as part of the launch of the 2013 FAW and McDonalds community award Ian popped down to Llay with a film crew to make a promotional video. Our club was chosen from 1000’s across the UK to host the event due to the Hugh success of our club over the past 5 years including winning the 2011 Community club of the year.
Despite constant rain all day Ian was happy to watch our under 10’s match and also award the man of the match awards and was also happy to sight autographs and have pictures taken with the players. Latter on with the rain still coming down he repeated something he had previously done 5 years ago with our current under 13’s and joined in a match with our under 7’s team.
Despite an old school muddy pitch Ian showed he still has the skills to pay the bills. Although he was denied a goal with a brilliant save from our young keeper. After the match Ian again stayed for photos and to sign autographs on a day that our young players will remember for a long time.
We would like to thank Ian, McDonalds, Brymbo, the Players and their parents / supporters for making it a great day in bad conditions.
New Everton Academy Partnership
Llay United are please to announce that we are now a Partnership club with Everton Football Academy.
The aim of the partnership is to work with Everton Academy to try to find the next Premier League
football star.
Following the clubs success both on and off the pitch over the last few years, we were approached
by Everton Academy to act as their eyes and ears in the Wrexham and Flintshire areas to identify the best players from age 4 to 8 and recommend these players to the Everton Satellite Academy, from where it is hoped that the players will progress to their full academy at Finch Farm.
The club aims to do this by using our established under 8’s and 7’s teams, as well as expanding our mini-kickers sessions on a Friday night to year 1 and reception children at 12 local schools.
As well as the obvious benefits that a partnership with a Premier league football club can bring, our coaches will have an opportunity to go to Finch Farm to observe and take part in their Academy coaching sessions; we are able to take our mini-football teams along to Finch farm to play their academy teams on a Friday / Sunday.
Also on offer to the club is if any of the players that we recommend are signed by the Everton Academy
our club will receive a complete kit (of our choice). Whereas the partnership does give our most talented players access into a premier league academy, it does not mean that the club will have to stop working with the other local teams, this year alone we have taken teams to play Liverpool, Stoke, Manchester City and Wrexham as well as a number of League of Wales Clubs.

Llay 14's and 12's Have a Ball
On Saturday 8th October Llay united under 14's and 12's were honoured to carry out the Ball Boy duties for the Wales v Montenegro U21 International match at Wrexham’s Racecourse ground. Once again the lads did the Country and Club proud with the way they handled the situation. The funniest part of the night was when the Wales Goal Keeper Chris Maxwell asked one of the ball boys not to be so quick in getting the ball back as they were holding out for a 1-0 win.
On Friday 2nd September 22 of our under 9 / 10’s teams lead out the Wales and Montenegro teams at the Cardiff City Stadium. Wales went on to win the match 2-1 giving Garry Speed his first victory as Welsh Manager
It was a massive honour for the club and a once in a lifetime opportunity for the players, to represent Wales and Llay United on the International stage. All of the players did club and country proud.
Llay United Awarded FAW Club of the Year
On Thursday 23rd June, Karon and myself were honoured to represent Llay United at the FAW football awards dinner at Cardiff Castle.
The highlight of the evening was the awards ceremony where the FAW honours clubs, coaches, players and volunteers for their outstanding contribution to Welsh football. In the awards we followed up our success in North Wales by being crowned Welsh Community Club of the Year.
Receiving this award is a great honour for the club and demonstrates how far the club has come over the last 7 years, thanks to all of the hard work of our dedicated coaches, volunteers, players and supporters.
I would also like to thank Park CP School Llay and our players who took part in the filming session, which was shown on the night, despite poor light the film crew made a brilliant job of the editing and we hope to get a copy in the near future.
Once again thank you for all of your help over years
Celebrations all Around
What a day, after winning the under 7’s fair play award, our under seven’s team represented the club at the WDYFL finals at Wrexham Racecourse ground. Where they played Ruthin in a series of matches, which saw Llay win two, Draw one, and narrowly loose one match. They then dashed back to the Johnstown Tournament and came away winners. Meanwhile at the same tournament Andy’s under 10’s team were busy winning the under 10’s tournament knocking out our other under 10 team in the semi-final. We then picked up our third award of the day when we were presented with our FAW Team of the Year award.
